Anybody ever flown Zoom airlines? I’m curious about their service reputation. I’m interested in flights to London, and they’ve got about 300 bucks over major carriers like Air Canada, which would be nice to take advantage of.
I joke that I wouldn’t mind flying harness class if the price was right, but, heh, it’s hard to practice what you preach sometimes.

Last time I checked it was less than a $300 difference by the time you consider taxes and fees, but things may be different for the dates and times you're checking. Also, it's a bit more expensive to get downtown from Gatwick compared to Heathrow but probably only 10-15 pounds.

I'm personally more than a bit wary of international flights on discount carriers - they have fewer planes and no partnerships and are therefore more likely to strand you somewhere inconvenient for a few days. But I'm glad there are carriers competing with Air Canada on international routes - they're not a great airline (but not terrible either) so they could use some competition :)

It’s a little more than 300 (Sept. dates), but that’s the super-duper cut-rate price. With an upgrade, which I might be tempted to take, it’s actually more than the AC economy class quote (but you get decent benefits).

I certainly haven’t traveled a lot, but when I have, it’s been with Air Canada and while I’ve rarely been seriously disappointed, I’m not usually overwhelmed either. I’ll shop around as best I can.

Any recommendations? What did you enjoy most about London?

I can't really recommend much. I've flown to London lots of times but it's always been on the way somewhere else - usually Ireland where my family is from. I had an evening and a morning in London a few years ago, but I was too tired from flying to make much of it.

You should ask [livejournal.com profile] diluvienne - she fell in love with the place last fall!

Oh, that London.

Does it say “The Other London” on road signs leading into town? It should.

Something else you might wnat to look into ( if you can find a way there ) is to leave from Burlington, VT. The price difference on the tickets is RIDICULOUS. Certainly worth a 2-hour drive down.

( Awesome lj icon. )

Hmmm. I couldn’t find any carriers from VT to England, do you have any suggestions on where I should look?

(Thanks! I have flashbacks every time I look at it, though, heh. Ichi was pretty tough on my stomach…)

I think the Burlington trick mainly works for flights to other parts of the States. At least for the dates I'm looking to go to Europe, all I could find was more expensive routes that involve a stopover in Newark. Also, I think I'd much rather avoid passing through the States and their TSA goons if I can avoid it. [livejournal.com profile] sps just posted about the horrors of transiting through JFK, and it's scared me off.

FYI, I'm using kayak.com for searching through lots of airline and travel sites. It works pretty well, though it apparently doesn't have Zoom's data (so thanks for the heads-up!)

Yeah I think [livejournal.com profile] cpirate might be right actually. I think I read hta tpost too fast cause I'm looking at Expedia and for starters, there's no non-connecting flights. And they start at 915$ US. *but* as far as what he is saying if you leave FROM a US airport, connecting to another US airport, it's not bad. It's when you arrive from a Canadian Airport connecting in the US that it gets annoying. ( I have many co workers who have gone down to Jamaica on business, connecting through Miami, and were given lots of trouble. But I myself have flown within the US with little or no problems ).

(Have you ever seen Visitor Q?)
